Sultanat Oman

The Sultanat of Oman is located at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula, surrounded of the Indian Ocean, the UEA, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. The size of Oman is 309’500 km2 and counts approximately 2’534’000 inhabitants - just a bit smaller than Germany. The government system is strictly monarchy - with the head of state and government Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.

Oman opened itself only in the last couple of years. There are still obvious tracks of the 5000 years old maritime trade, straw hive graves, loam fortresses, old harbours, and frankincense trails as UNESCO world cultural heritage. But today’s Oman offers a lot more than history. The landscape is beautiful and the climate is very pleasant. Oman is the home of very special animals, such as the Arabian Oryx Antelope, the Arabian Leopard and the Thar. There are also flamingos, pelicans, storks, camels, parrots, and lizards. Different plants such as date palms, thorn shrubs, acacias, jasmine and frankincense trees are residence in Oman. There are zeder and oil trees in the mountain area.

Dhofar Region

Dhofar is in the South of Oman on the same latitude as many other holiday destinations. The vegetation here in the south is more tropical than in Muscat - which is 750 km up to the north. Some people call it “the garden of the south”. The temperatures are between 27-28°C in the winter – and just over 31-33°C in early summer. The rainy season, also called “Khareef”, starts in July and holds until September. The humidity raises up to 80% and 90% in these month. This is the time where you find the desert and mountains covered with green grass and bushes. A lot of Omanis and tourists of the Gulf States are coming down here to have a look at this beautiful scenery.

Numerous fruit shops with fresh bananas, coconuts and papayas at the street sides give you the impression, as you would be somewhere in the Caribbean.
    ready for some fresh fruits?

During Khareef we do not offer any diving because of the rain and high waves, causing low visibility.

Salalah – the capital of Dhofar

Salalah, the capital of Dhofar, is historical and modern at the same time. The traditions a lived still very strong. There is a traditional souq where you find gold and silver, local antique weapons, antiquities and Frankincense. The main freight harbour is located some kilometres from the city center . The Sultan owns three palaces in Salalah and prefers this region as his summer residence. Many Omanis and Expats living in Oman, choose Salalah as their holiday destination to enjoy the tropical weather.
